Fingerprint has very great potential to identify human and it was stated in 14th century ago in Al-Qur’an in the following verse:

“Does man think that We cannot assemble his bones? Nay, We are able to put together in perfect order the very tips of his fingers.” (Al Qur’an, 75:3-4)

Few people were unfamiliar with the meaning of Tips of Fingers or fingerprint in human as well as their usage. Until then, in the late of the 19th century, fingerprints began to discover. Through numerous researches, it was discovered that fingerprint of each people was unique. Each person has a series of fingerprints different from another. In return to this, fingerprints are currently used as guidance for identification process all over the world.

Nowadays – through continuous research – fingerprints may also be used in disclosing or mapping the type of one’s intelligence / talent, learning style, and innate personality or character. This method is popularly known as “Fingerprints Intelligence Analysis Test” or globally called as “Dermatoglyphics Multiple Intelligence Test”.

Fingerprints analysis is a technological-based most current method applied to analyze one’s talent, from children of 3 to adults. By knowing one’s talent, the potentials may be developed to achieve success in life in effective and efficient manner as learning style, personality and appropriate profession in the future can be disclosed.

Why do we have to join fingerprints analysis? Because we can have more oriented vision in life and enjoy our profession in the future. Many parents force their sons/daughters to take specific profession without knowing their talent and wish, thus making them be trapped certain profession in contrast with their background or forcedly undertaking such profession uncomfortably.

Such extreme confusion may be solved through fingerprints analysis as the test result will show innate intelligence, learning style and personality, making us more focused in maximizing the potential we possess.

Fingerprints analysis has knowledge basis called as dermatoglyphics.  Dermatoglyphs is the study of the pattern on fingers. These patterns are unique and are heavily linked with one’s genetic composition and are closely related to our nervous system.  The experts are interested in fingerprint as:

* Each person has different fingerprint. No one has same fingerprint and it can not be falsified.

* It is permanent. The fingerprint pattern will never change from birth until death.

* It can easily be classified and measured. It can easily be seen using naked eyes and integrated with technology and kept in database.

In dermatoglyphics research, the fingerprint pattern has appeared in fetus when the child is still 13-19 weeks in uterus. Currently, fingerprint research is vigorously performed by the scientists. They relate fingerprint to intelligence, physical-mental health, psychology with total sample currently reaching more than 3 million people.  The research result statistically concludes that the fingerprint has strong connection with one’s brain and personality. In return to this, they create a technological-based application known as fingerprint analysis biometric system. The application is used to collect fingerprint samples which will be kept and analyzed automatically by employing software and fingerprint analysis.

Dermatoglyphics Analysis is also an integration of  brain science, medicine, genetics, psychology and behavioral science.  Through nearly five centuries of observation and study of genetic medicine, amount and distribution of neurons is reflected in a regular patterns on our fingerprints. According to European and American experts, they found that fingerprints show different kinds of  characteristics, even with monozygotic (identical) twins, their fingerprints are different.

At the same time, the same fingerprints will appear again after healing of wound, as long as the injury has not affect the cells. Medical experts,  with observation, recording, comparison, induction and other methods, and clinical experiences, confirmed that fingerprints provide accurate analysis of a person’s multiple intelligences and potential.  Experts who study dermatoglyphics believe that fingerprints (dermatoglyphy) were marks of embryonic nerves, which may reflect one’s genetic potential.  If we understand our own qualities and nurture according,  it will tremendously help in terms of career development, managing emotions, increase concentration, and improve interpersonal skills .

History of Dermatoglyphics

Science of fingerprint is developing from time to time. It was initially used to identify specific person since each human has unique fingerprint. The science to identify specific person through fingerprint is called as dactiloscopy. It was then used for criminal forensic purpose in police department.

Science of fingerprint was developed after Dr.Harold Cummins introduced DERMATOGLYPHICS. Dermatoglyphics is derived from Greek: Derma means skin and Glyph means carving. The science is based on epidermal theory or lines on skin surface. Dermatoglyphics has strong scientific basis since it is supported by research. The science believes that fingerprint is one’s “blue print”.

The researchers found that line pattern on one’s fingerprint had scientific connection with genetic code of brain cells and intelligence potential. The research was commenced by Govard Bidloo in 1865, J.C.A Mayer (1788), John E Purkinje (1823), Noel Jaquin (1958). Beryl Hutchinson in 1967 wrote a book entitled “Your Life in Your Hands, discussing about hand analysis. Lastly, based on research result by Baverly C Jaegers (1974), he concluded that the fingerprint could reflect one’s characteristic and psychological aspect.

Human’s fingerprint pattern is very unique and influenced by genetic formation process. In Al Gaan’s opinion, a fingerprint practitioner, human’s fingerprint will never change and has strong connection with the development of nervous system. The fingerprint formation begins when the fetus is 13 weeks, in coincide with the formation of brain cell. The process will be complete within the 24th week. Human’s fingerprint will never change and can never be falsified.

Nowadays, a fingerprint analysis method to discover type of intelligence and personality is also developed. This method relates Dermatoglyphics, Neuroscience (brain) and Psychology (behavior). The science is developed through research taken from thousands of fingerprint samples, resulting in the fact that the fingerprint patterns state a connection with specific behavior. The fingerprint analysis may also disclose one’s abnormalities and even health.

The followings are research conclusions which have been conducted to analyze the correlation between fingerprint and brain, especially connected to intelligence.

1. Independent research result by psychometric and personality expert, Prof. Dr. M Zin Nordin (psychometric expert), DR.  Mohd.Suhaimi Mohammad (personality expert) and DR Wan Shahrazad Wan Sulaiman, concluding that the inventory testing shows GOOD and HIGH reliabilities of alpha coefficients 0.849 and 2. It obviously shows significant correlation between test result with other tests (simulation of tundra game activity) by using statistical test of chi square.

3. In Dr. Syailendra WS. SpKJ, the pattern of fingerprint is form since fetus in uterus aged 13 – 19 weeks. The fingerprint pattern is parental hereditary and Influenced by one’s DNA.

In 1986, a research was conducted by Dr. Rita Levi Montalcini and Dr Stanley Cohen, on correlation between Nerve Growth Factor (NGF) and Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF). The research found correlation between epidermal line pattern of skin and nervous growth system, showing correlation between fingerprint pattern and brain. They were granted with noble award.

In experts’ opinion, the central nervous system is connected with parts of brain. And the brain is a center of all physical and mental activities. Each part of brain, in pre-frontal, frontal, occipital, parietal, and temporal area, has different function and strength (dominance). Therefore, it is logical if patterns of one’s fingerprint can manifest the performance of parts of brain.

However, the fingerprint analysis is only limited to knowing its basic potential, talent and personality, and at the same time, environment and education will also determine one’s character. At least by knowing the talent, we can better be oriented in order to maximally achieve our goal. As an illustration, one having talent in art would be better if directed to art than to be a scientist since, from the perspective of cost and effort, it will be more effective and efficient.

I started to study the correlation of dermatoglyph (fingerprints) and human intelligence in

1988. Through 19-year continuous efforts, I have established a preliminary systematic method for intelligence measurement through Dermatoglyphic identification. I have successively made study, measurement and sampling of over 40 thousand people in 25 regions of China, and gradually improved the practice and theory of Multivariate Intelligence Measurement through Dermatoglyphic Identification, as well as made it highly reliable and effective.

The method of Multivariate Intelligence Measurement through Dermatoglyphic Identification passed the Science and Technology Achievement Appraisal (YKYCZ9212) by Henan Academy of Sciences on October 4, 1992,  and also passed the demonstration jointly presided by the Genetics Society of China, the Working Committee for Popular Science Activities under China Psychological Society, and the Working Committee for Health Care of Women and Children under China International Exchange and Promotive Association for Medical and Health Care (CPAM) on April 15, 2006.

The study on multivariate intelligence measurement through dermatoglyphic identification (finger print) makes physiological and physical measurement of human intelligence possible.It is most likely an easily workable and accurate intelligence measurement before people can make precise determination of human intelligence from gene level.

It is possible to become the latest generation of intelligence measurement methods in succession to “Assessment Scale”. Multivariate intelligence measurement through dermatoglyphic identification is capable to accurately identify the intelligence difference and personality difference of individuals. Therefore it may be used by schools or institutions in making appropriate selection of different talents. Dermatoglyph is the external existence of human genes and brains, and may also be considered as a representation of DNA sequence.

1684, Dr. Nehemiah Grew (1641-1712) presented Finger Prints, Palms and Soles An Introduction To Dermatoglyphics to the Royal Society

1685, Dr.Bidloo published an anatomical atlas, Anatomia Humani Corporis, with illustrations showing the human figure both in living attitudes and as dissected cadavers

1686, Dr. Marcello Malphigi (1628-1694) noted in his treatise; ridges, spirals and loops in fingerprints

1788, J.C.Mayer was the first to write out basic tenets of fingerprint analysis and theorized that fingerprints were unique

1823, Dr. Jan Purkinje classified the papillary lines on the fingertips into nine types: arch, tented arch, ulna loop, radial loop, peacock’s eye/compound, spiral whorl, elliptical whorl, circular whorl, and double loop/composite.

1823, Joannes Evangelista Purkinji found that the patterns on one’s finger tips and the ridges and lines on one’s prints begin to form at around the thirteenth week in the womb.

1832, Dr. Charles Bell (1774-1842) was one of the first physicians to combine the scientific study of neuro-anatomy with clinical practice. He published The Hand: Its Mechanism and Vital Endowments as Evincing Design.

1893, Dr. Francis Galton published his book, “Fingerprints”, establishing the individuality and permanence of fingerprints. The book included the first classification system for fingerprints: Arch, Loop and Whorl.

1897,Harris Hawthorne Wilder was the first American to study Dermatoglyphics. He invented the Main Line Index, studied thenar hypothenar eminencies, zones II, III, IV.

1926,Dr. Harold Cummins & Dr. Charles Midlo coined the term “Dermatoglyphics”. They showed that the hand contained significant Dermatoglyphics configurations that would assist the identification of mongolism in the new-born child.

1936,Dr. Harold Cummins & Dr. Charles Midlo also researched the embryo-genesis of skin ridge patterns and established that the fingerprint patterns actually develop in the womb and are fully formed by the fourth foetal month.

1944, Dr Julius Spier Psycho-Analytic Chirologist published “The Hands of Children” he made several significant discoveries especially in the area of psycho-sexual development and the diagnosis of imbalances and problems in this area from the patterns of the hands.

1957, Dr.Walker used the dermal configurations in the diagnosis of mongolism

1968, Sarah Holt, whose own work ‘The Genetics of Dermal Ridges’ published in 1968, summarizes her research in of dermatoglyphics patterns of both the fingers and the palm in various peoples, both normal and congenitally afflicted.

1969, John J. Mulvihill, MD and David W. Smith, MD published The Genesis of Dermatoglyphics that provides the most up to date version of how fingerprints form.

1970, USSR,Former Soviet Union. Using Dermatoglyphics in selecting the contestant for Olympics.

1976, Schaumann and Alter’s ‘Dermatoglyphics in Medical Disorders’ published.Significant investigations have also been carried out into the dermatoglyphics indicators of congenital heart disease, leukaemia, cancer, rubella embryopathy, Alzheimer’s disease, schizophrenia etc.Dermatoglyphics research being directed into genetic research and the diagnosis of chromosomal defects.

1980, China carry out researching work of human potential, intelligence and talents in dermatoglyphics and human genome perspective.

1985, Dr. Chen Yi Mou Phd. of Havard University research Dermatoglyphics based on Multiple Intelligence theory of Dr. Howard Gardner. First apply dermatoglyphics to educational fields and brain physiology.

2000, Dr Stowens, Chief of Pathology at St Luke’s hospital in New York, claims to be able to diagnose schizophrenia and leukaemia with up to a 90% accuracy. In Germany, Dr Alexander Rodewald reports he can pinpoint many congenital abnormalities with a 90% accuracy.

2004, IBMBS- International Behavioral & Medical Biometrics Society. Over 7000 report and thesis published. Nowadays the U.S., Japan or China, Taiwan apply dermatoglyphics to educational fields, expecting to improve teaching qualities and raising learning efficiency by knowing various learning styles.


Is Dermatoglyphics a firm of fortune telling?

Absolutely not.
Palmistry or Chiromancy is the divination of the future through the interpretation of lines of the palms whereas Dermatoglyphs is the science of comparing analysing and classifying the patterns of the skin grains and ridges of each person’s fingerprint. These analysis do not predict the future, but rather gives a comprehensive insight of one’s innate intelligence distributions, potentials, traits, preferred learning and communication styles.

How is Dermatoglyphics Analysis in comparison to conventional methods?

Conventional Testing uses questionnaire format where most of the time answers can be influenced by the emotional and mental state, wherein Dermatoglyphs Analysis is unaffected by such parameters hence offering most vivid results

How reliable?

Since years many scientists and medical doctors have used genetics, embryology, Dermatoglyphs, anthropology and anatomy as basis to observe, analyze, validate and conclude the result of Dermatoglyphs. It has been most advanced and useful tool to understand the potential functioning of brain lobes.
